ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE
In 9th Class English Active Passive Voice refers to the form of a verb that indicates when a grammatical subject is performing the action or is the recipient of the action. When a sentence is written in the active voice, the subject performs the action; in the passive, the subject receives the action.
In scholarly writing, it is generally preferred to choose an active verb and pair it with a subject that names the person or thing that is performing or performing the action. Active verbs are stronger and generally more emphatic. which forms of the verb "to be" or verbs in the passive, for instance: 9th Class English Active and Passive Voice.
Active Voice: The award-winning chef prepares each meal with loving care.
Passive Voice: Each meal is prepared with loving care by the award-winning chef.
In the active clause example above, the simple subject is "to cook" and "to prepare" is the verb: the chef "prepares each meal with loving care." In the passive clause, "food" is the simple subject and "will be prepared" is the verb: each meal is prepared "by the award-winning chef." In fact, the object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence. Although both sentences have the same basic components, their structure differs from each other. Active sentences refer to what people (or things) do, while passive sentences refer to what happens to people or objects.
What is Voice of a verb?
The voice of a verb expresses whether the subject in the sentence has performed or received the action. For example,
The watchman opens the door.
The door is opened by the watchman.
Types of Voices of Verb:-
Active Voice:-
● When an action performed by the subject is expressed by the verb, it is an active voice.
● Active voice is used when more straightforward relation and clarity is required between the subject and the verb. For example,
o Hens lay eggs.
o Birds build nests.
Passive Voice:-
● When the action expressed by the verb is received by the subject, it is passive voice.
● Passive voice is used when the doer of the action is not known and the focus of the sentence is on the action and not the subject. For example,
o Eggs are laid by hens.
o Nests are built by birds.
